As a board certified family physician, I have seen the ravages and effects of addiction on individuals, family members and communities. My experience led me to seek out expertise in treating addiction, not just from the medical perspective but truly catering to individual needs. I practice medicine from an integrative approach combining traditional Western medicine, Eastern philosophy and nutrition to aid patients in developing specific goals that are meaningful to them. I encourage patients to take responsibility for their health and be partners in their care.
My journey in health care began as a nurse, graduating from Huron Road Hospital School of Nursing in the mid 1980s. I quickly realized that I wanted to learn more and completed my Bachelor of Science degree at John Carroll University. I went on to medical school at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, graduating in 1998. My intern year was completed at University of Wisconsin-Madison and my Family Medicine residency was at MetroHealth Medical Center.
My free time is spent pursuing the things most important to me: my family, including my husband, 2 daughters, 3 step-children, son in law and beautiful grandson. I am a dedicated runner, having completed 8 marathons and several races of shorter distances. By running long distances, I am reminded that pain is inevitable but suffering is optional and by putting one foot in front of the other, we keep moving forward. I love to cook and enjoy it most when I am able to use food from my garden. I am an animal lover and in addition to having 2 dogs, I have 3 backyard chickens that have been the producers of the eggs in our kitchen. I love to travel and learn about other cultures and communities. Reading is my favorite late evening activity. I meditate daily to improve my focus and mental clarity.
